AFP begins pursuit ops vs alleged ASG members after Bohol encounter

MANILA — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) have issued a list of members of the armed group who were able to flee after an encounter in Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Napo, Inabanga, Bohol last week. These include seven suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) and their local guide. Four of their members have been killed in an encounter with military and police troops.

Meanwhile, the AFP has sought the help of the PNP to investigate the death of a couple killed in the encounter. Constantina and Constancio Petalco were both over 60 years old and were residents of the town of Inabanga. The AFP however has not confirmed if the two had links to the terrorist group. The Armed Forces of the Philippines believe that during the operations, there were no civilians left in the area because they have already evacuated. However, what we are sure now is that the Abu Sayyaf members were there in their house. The terrorist group fought there that’s why it became our target in our combat operations. Authorities continue to remind the residents of Inabanga to remain vigilant and immediately report to the authorities any suspicious individuals.
