Manhunt on for Pinoy businessman wanted for murder in the US; $3,000 reward offered for info

Police in Northbrook, Illinois have launched a manhunt for a Filipino businessman who is wanted for killing a lawyer in December last year. The suspect has been identified as John G. Panaligan, 50, and formerly reside at 2200 block of Boxford Court in Aurora. He is the primary suspect in the murder of Jigar K. Patel who was strangled to death inside his office at 1363 Shermer Road. Panaligan is the last man seen on the security camera exiting the victim’s office on the day the latter died. He was wearing a trench coat, a surgical mask, a hat and walking with a cane.

Police said they were certain that Panaligan was the man in the CCTV, but he is not disabled to be using a cane. They believe it was a disguise. The US Marshalls have offered a $3,000 reward for anyone with information leading to Panaligan’s arrest. They can call (888) 869-4590. The suspect has been described as 5’ 5”tall, weighing around 140 pounds, with brown eyes and black hair. He is considered ‘extremely dangerous’. Investigators said they are looking as a motive behind Patel’s murder a legal dispute between Panaligan, owner of Vital Home Healthcare, and a client whom the lawyer represents. The client is suing Panaligan over a still unspecified reason. “We never believed that there was any threat to the community. This was not a random act, he was targeted by Mr. Panaligan,” said Northbrook Police Chief Charles Wernick. A warrant for Panaligan’s arrest for first-degree murder had been issued five weeks ago but only made public early this month.
