Pres. Duterte welcomes Japanese PM Shinzo Abe to his modest home in Davao City

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has personally witnessed President Rodrigo Duterte’s simple lifestyle after he spent less than an hour inside the Philippine President’s modest home in Davao City on Friday Morning, January 13. The Japanese Prime Minister enjoyed his short visit to President Duterte’s home, as told by Christopher “Bong” Go, Duterte’s special assistant.

“Enjoy si Abe,” Bong Go told Rappler. Abe, who came with his wife, Akie Shinzo, had breakfast with the President. They ate local rice cakes such as biko, kutsinta and suman. They also had President Duterte’s favorite monggo soup that Honeylet Avanceña, the President’s common-law wife, prepared. According to Bong Go, Abe spent 10 minutes inside the President’s bedroom where he was shown President Duterte’s bed and favorite Kulambo (mosquito net). Abe’s visit to President Duterte’s house was part of his 2-day official visit to the country, from January 12 to 13. A Japanese government official said that the Prime Minister’s visit to Pres. Duterte’s house showed that Japan and the Philippines “are more than brothers.”
