A jazzed-up jeepney turns heads in Ilocos Norte

A Filipino migrant who lives in Hawaii used to drive an ordinary jeepney to earn a living in Ilocos Norte now owns a very attractive version of the vehicle. His new jeepney, named after his youngest child, Scarlett, is a real head turner. The jeepney owned by Candido Hipolito who hailed from Piddig, Ilocos Norte has an eye-catching exterior with many beautiful and colorful stickers.

But the exterior design is not what it makes it special, as many jeepneys plying the country’s roads have similar looks. What makes it out of the ordinary is its interior. The 21-seater “Scarlett” is equipped with a closed-circuit TV camera, has WiFi so that Mr. Hipolito’s family can have internet connection during the ride. It also has a karaoke machine with flat-screen TV. And the jeepney has an aircon. Mr. Hipolito said it was his longtime dream to own a unique car. [I used to drive the Laoag-Piddig route. I dreamed that one day I could own a unique vehicle] He said he spent more than a million for his new jeepney, which his family uses when they are here in the Philippines for a vacation.
