Regarding health issues: Duterte says he is just “fooling media”

Amid speculations that he might be seriously ill, no-less than President Rodrigo Duterte revealed that he was just fooling the media. Speculations regarding the President’s health condition rooted from the Chief Executive’s earlier statement that he experiences daily bouts of migraine, aside from suffering from a rare disorder called Buerger’s disease and Barrett’s esophagus. The President noted he was just fooling around and the press swallowed it. In an interview during the birthday celebration of Sen. Manny Pacquiao recently, Duterte became defensive about his health while disclosing about how he hates long travels. “I don’t like going places. I’m contented staying inside my house. After that, go to After Dark bar, but I can’t drink,” he was quoted saying; noting that after that intrigues started especially when he said he was sick. In addition, the President said: “I toy with these crazies because they pick up whatever I say.

That’s true.” As such, Pres. Duterte, who has had a love-hate relationship with journalists, said “buwang” or crazy reporters write everything he says. A week ago, the 71-year-old leader admitted suffering from daily migraine and spinal pain. He then said his doctor had advised him to undergo an operation but his partner, Honeylet Avanceña warned him that many surgeries on the spine have gone out of the normal. After that, the President revealed that he used to take Fentanyl because of a spinal injury from previous motorcycle accidents. Fentanyl is often prescribed for cancer pain and other chronic ailments, highly potent and additive painkiller which is estimated to be up to 100 times stronger than morphine. However, Duterte said his doctor made him stop using it upon learning he was “abusing the drug” by using more than what was prescribed. Clearing the air, Presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, said that there is nothing serious about Duterte’s health condition. Also, the President himself has belied rumors that he has cancer but has admitted having Buerger’s disease; a cardiovascular illness characterized by inflammation of blood vessels usually due to smoking.
