After 20 years, SC orders the ‘immediate release’ of man who killed DLSU student in a road rage incident

After 20 years of being in jail, convicted road rage killer Rolito Go — who shot dead a student from the De La Salle University (DLSU) — will soon be out of prison after the Supreme Court (SC) ordered his “immediate release.” It was disclosed that on Friday, December 16, an order for Go’s release was sent to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) in Muntinlupa and indicated it is immediately executory.

This means that Go can be released on the same day when the order was sent. “You are hereby ordered to immediately release Rolito T. Go unless there are other causes for which he should be further detained, and to return this Order with the certificate of your proceedings within five days from notice hereof,” the order given by Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr said. Go, a construction magnate, was convicted for shooting DLSU engineering student Eldon Maguan in the head during a road rage incident in 1991. He has served 20 years and eight months in prison. It was found out that Go had stormed out of dinner following a fight with his girlfriend. He drove against a one-way traffic on Wilson Street, where his vehicle nearly collided with Maguan’s. A heated altercation followed which eventually led to the killing of the student.
