Huawei P9 Price, Specs, Dual Leica Camera, And Everything We Know On Launch Event

Huawei is launching its latest flagship series, Huawei P9, in a media event to be held by the Chinese smartphone manufacturer in London today. It is tipped that the Huawei P9 will be launched in four variants of handsets, made of a standard P9, a lighter version P9 Lite, a P9 Premium and P9 Max.

Ahead of the official press release for the upcoming smartphone, the internet has come up with several rumors about the features and specifications of the Huawei P9 as revealed by benchmark tests.

The latest leaked details list the new smartphone as featuring a 5.2-inch Full HD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. The P9 is powered by the Huawei Kirin 955 HiSilicon octa-core chipset with a quartet of ARM Cortex-A53 cores and a quartet of ARM Cortex-A72 cores. The fastest of those eight cores are clocked at 2.5GHz.

The processor is paired with a Mali-T880 GPU and 3GB of RAM. Internal Storage of this standard model is 32GB and the phone runs the Android 6.0 Marshmallow underneath Huawei’s own EMUI. The price of the P9 is already listed in European websites and the standard handset will sell at 599.90 euros putting it in the high-end range of devices.

The highlight feature of the P9 is the Leica dual-lens camera sensors which the company hopes to cash in on with it as the smartphone’s unique selling point. A new image of the P9 leaked, courtesy of Evan Blass a.k.a, confirms that the smartphone features a dual camera setup and a fingerprint sensor at the back of the phone.

The Leica camera, with a SUMMARIT H 1:2.2/27 lens (f/2.2 aperture, 27mm focal length), will deliver far more enhanced photography with the high-end lenses from one of the world’s foremost high-end camera manufacturers. Huawei announced its partnership with Leica back in February and it’s going to be a pretty big deal for mobile photography  especially considering the company’s tagline for this phone, “Change the way you see the world.”

Meanwhile, we have also learned that P9 will be launching in Lite, Premium and Max models with different set of features for each of them. The P9 Lite will be featuring some of same specifications as the standard model such as the 32GB internal storage, Kirin 950 or Snapdragon 650 chipset processor and 3GB of RAM but will not be featuring the dual camera sensors and full metallic body.

The Premium or the Pro version of P9 will feature more enhanced specifications such as a 6.2-inch QHD display, Kirin 955 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage. And there is the P9 Max which will come with a 6.8-inch QHD display, 6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB internal storage.

The standard P9 will reportedly sell at US$499, the Pro at US$599, the Max at US$699 and the Lite at US$299.
