Duterte: ‘I never admitted that I did an extrajudicial killing’

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who is running as President under PDP-Laban, denied any involvement in alleged extrajudicial killings under his term as local chief executive.

Duterte’s statement came in response to Vice President Jejomar Binay’s allegation that if the tough-talking mayor would be elected President, he would kill even minors, women, and elderly that are suspected criminals.

“I never admitted that I did an extrajudicial killing. What I admitted to him, baka iyong, kuwan [maybe the] killings. When you go out against criminals and syndicates, do not expect a pristine… It’s always bloody. I never said extrajudicial,” Duterte told GMA News.

He also threw back the question at Binay; asking if the Vice President, who is currently facing cases of corruption for alleged overpricing of the Makati City Hall building, was simply scared of possible prosecution. Duterte says he will not choose the criminals he would be prosecuting.

“Bakit siya maano sa killing? [Why would he be worried about killing?] Is he not worried of the money? Of the billions he took with him? A criminal is a criminal, rich or poor,” he said.

He also clarified that he cannot bear to kill women and children.

“Even if I wanted to kill children and women, I could not do it. Lalaki [men], anytime. But to kill a person kneeling down, his hands up, and say kill him, I could not do that. There is a little bit of warrior left in me,” he said during a speech before the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies.

Duterte noted that he did not have qualms as to resorting to violent means when an alleged criminal is also resisting violently.

“You do not kill people like that. It has always been the classic example of arresting a person and a person offering violent resistance. And if you feel you are in danger, shoot the person,” he said.

Duterte is running under a platform of ridding crime and drugs in the country in just three to six months.
