Zayn Malik no longer engaged to Perrie Edwards

Zayn Malik, formerly of One Direction, has broken off his engagement to Perrie Edwards, US Weekly reported on Tuesday citing an unidentified source. US Weekly said the source informed them that Malik and Edwards split up two weeks ago. The source said: 'Perrie is being a trooper about it and putting on a brave face but she's devastated. She's doesn't know what he's thinking. She's going to go out and promote the new single but obviously the timing could not be worse, especially when she's going to be doing so many interviews.' A source close to Zayn told Us Weekly that he simply wanted a 'fresh start', adding: 'He just wanted to move on and start over in all ways.' MailOnline has contacted reps for Perrie and Zayn for comment. While Perrie has indeed put on a brave face, larking around in new Instagram shots posted on bandmate Jesy Nelson's Instagram page, she was noticeably not wearing her engagement ring.

A source told PEOPLE: 'Perrie's being supported by her bandmates,' the source says, 'but she's really in pieces about this.' However, Perrie was spotted at the airport on Monday wearing her large diamond engagement ring and she appeared to be in high spirits. Putting on a brave face before the devastating news broke, Perrie smiled and laughed as she pushed her luggage through the terminal on a trolley. Zayn and Perrie have been dating since December 2011, after meeting on set of the X Factor. Their friendship blossomed into a romance after Perrie's band Little Mix won the competition's eighth series. Later that month, Perrie appeared to confirm the dating rumors when she denied dumping Zayn, telling an interviewer: 'How can I possibly have dumped someone that I barely even know? It's actually massively embarrassing.'

Their first attempt at a relationship ended after a few weeks, the couple started dating officially four months later. A month later, they kissed in public for the first time. A source told The Sun newspaper: 'They've spent months getting to know each other to make sure they were on track before they went public.' The couple were unsure their relationship could work because of the pressures and travel involved in their work, but have decided they like each other too much not to give things a try. The drama led to Zayn deleting his Twitter account because he was tired of the 'hate,' after Perrie deleted her own account in May. The couple were back on good terms that December as Perrie's bandmates gushed: '[We've] never seen a boy love a girl as much as he loves her.' The ringing endorsement came just a few weeks before Zayn flew back to the UK to save his relationship in February 2013 after pictures emerged of the star allegedly in a waitress' bed. Australian Courtney Webb took pictures of the singer while he slept, which went public. But Perrie stood by her man.
