Tom Cruise to reprise role as ‘Maverick’ in Top Gun 2

When we hear Top Gun, the first thing that comes to mind is that hot, good-looking, ‘reckless’ Navy pilot wearing a Ray-ban aviator shades and leather jacket and then the name Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, a.k.a. Tom Cruise. Top Gun is one remarkable movie that has indeed left a mark to moviegoers of the 80s and onward. With an awesome cast including Cruise, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer, Anthony Edwards, and Tom Skerrit, a renowned director (the late Tony Scott), a good story, and an unforgettable theme song (Take My Breath Away by Berlin), it is not surprising that Top Gun was a blockbuster movie and the highest grossing film in 1986.

Skydance CEO David Ellison cinched that the movie is under development, and implied that Cruise will again be playing his famous role as Maverick, reports Mirror. Ellison was quoted as saying: “Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now. He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today. There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick. It is I don’t think what people are going to expect, and we are very, very hopeful that we get to make the movie very soon. But like all things, it all comes down to the script, and Justin is writing as we speak.”
