Former Beauty Queen slams Toni Gonzaga’s Binibining Pilipinas 2015 hosting stint

Formed Beauty queen-turned-actress Nina Ricci Alagao openly shared her disappointment with the way ABS-CBN actress-TV host Toni Gonzaga who, along with actor Xian Lim, hosted the Binibining Pilipinas 2015 coronation night Sunday, March 15, 2015. Nina, who was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2000 and represented the Philippines in the Miss Universe 2000 pageant held in Nicosia, Cyprus, mentioned several points why Toni’s way of handling the Q and A portion in the prestigious beauty pageant became inappropriate via her Facebook account. She said she sensed that the host became overconfident. It was almost as if she was being arrogant.

She mentioned that Toni even prodded some of the judges to proceed with the Question and Answer portion, as if she disregarded the difference between their ages and experience. She also reacted on the way Toni seemingly made fun of one of the contestant’s earrings and skin during the interview. She said before she became the Toni Gonzaga she is right now, she was once a brown-skinned girl with an untrimmed nose who was not even noticeable.

She also mentioned that Toni should look back on those days including the time when she was not allowed to enter a TV network building because she was mistaken as an “alalay” (personal assistant). She added that maybe, if Toni reflects on those days when she was full of imperfections and felt humiliated, she would be more forgiving of others who are not perfect as well. Nina emphasized that the Binibining Pilipinas is the most prestigious beauty pageant in the Philippines and it is not an appropriate venue for a host’s ridicule and disrespect.

She added that the one who ended up most humiliated after the coronation night was Toni herself because she ended up proving to the people that although she has hosted many shows and events in the past, hosting a beauty pageant does not fit her at all. She mentioned what her friend director Edu Pillora said, “Leave that kind of hosting to PBB (Pinoy Big Brother), not BBP (Binibining Pilipinas). The controversial post was already deleted and Nina had apologized to Toni’s fans to appease them. However, she pointed out that she did not mean to attack Toni personally or her general performance as a host. It was just the way Toni handled the Q and A portion. Nina hoped that the people would be more open-minded about what she posted.
